Newsletter for Companions and Garden Pass Holders of the Well
JULY 2026
Our Companions Day theme of Goodwill and Interconnectedness. was beautifully explored by all our speakers and panelists, and especially our special guests Linda Tucker, Global White Lions Protection Trust and wild bee expert, Jean Vernon.
We learnt so much about Linda’s pioneering work with the rare white lions and what they teach us about interconnectedness and the rising of consciousness. We discovered the amazing way solitary bees felt tiny sleeping bags for their babies and nest in empty snail shells, showing how all of nature is a vibrant web of good will and connection.
It was such an uplifting and inspiring day, it brought sunshine to our hearts, despite the downpours!
Carolyn Hillyer & Nigel Shaw sang songs to inspire our love for the Earth in their Wild Forgotten Way Concert and it was wonderful to have them here again!
More details about Companions Day will be in the Autumn-Winter Chalice Journal.

Meet Our People
Rose White is the volunteer co-ordinator
at Chalice Well.
I love working at Chalice Well because it is
one of the most beautiful gardens in Avalon.
Avalon is a land which is said to be the heart of Albion, and these are my ancestral lands.
It is also a joy and a privilege to work with
others who share my love and care for this special place.
It’s one of the things that I also enjoy about helping people join our team of volunteers here at Chalice Well.

Lammas – 1 August is the time of the first harvests and we break bread together giving thanks to the earth’s generosity and our community. We gather at the wellhead for a silent meditation at 12:00 and then invite you to follow the flowing well water to the Vesica Pool for our Lammas ceremony.
Autumn Equinox Gathering – 23 September Join us for our midday silent meditation at the wellhead followed by our ceremony beside the waters of the Vesica Pool.

Love from the Garden
Pilgrims to the Lions Head are noticing oregano, lavender and vibrant pink loosestrife planted in a gentle curve to echo the shape of the fountain. This is the amazing moment that the Well water meets the air and the light for the first time. The planting allows space for people at the Lions Head to take their own time for a moment of deep reflection, tuning into the vibrancy of the well water, while others wait along
the path.
The garden is full of abundance, especially the apples growing
and Grandmother Beech absolutely laden with nuts.

Love from the Waters
Water diviners and specialists have reported that the Spring has a ‘primary’ origin coming from deep within the earth. The dowser Sig Lonegren has dowsed many sites around the
world and says,
“The water doesn’t come from above. It comes from below and so is not dependent on rainfall and begins its existence deep within the bowels of our Mother, the Earth.”
Wisdom & Inspiration
“Life is encompassed by love, and the pilgrim is able to go forward cheerfully on their destined way with deep thankfulness of spirit, mind and heart.”
Wellesley Tudor Pole
“Sway, sway, tops of the trees
Under the stars so white.
Cradle my soul in your branches wet,
and carry me there till the moon shall set
Just for tonight!”
Alice Buckton
Alice Buckton was the owner guardian of Chalice Well from 1913 until 1944. She was a pioneer in education, women’s emancipation, a celebrated playwright and poet.
Wellesley Tudor Pole founded the Chalice Well Trust in 1959 . In addition to being a prolific writer, so much of which is relevant for our time now, he also initiated the Silent Minute, which we observe at the Well twice a day.
