Newsletter for Companions and Garden Pass Holders of the Well
MAY 2026
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Companions Day on Saturday 6 June. Our theme is Goodwill and Interconnectedness. Being of true and good heart was essential to Wellesley Tudor Pole’s vision for Chalice Well and the role the Well plays in our times now. Our guest speakers, Linda Tucker, Global White Lions Protection Trust and wild bee expert, Jean Vernon will explore how all of nature is connected in a great web of energy and light, as we are all connected heart to heart.
Please book your lunch before 30 May: gluten free, vegan sweet potato and sun-dried tomato tart with four salads £13. Prebooking your lunch guarantees you a table seat. Priority theatre-style seating is also available if you have any accessibility needs but are not booking lunch.

Meet Our People
Susannah Mitchell volunteer supporter in the office and on our Flower Essence Training courses.
I’ve been a volunteer at Chalice Well for 6 years and have always found it to be a place where I feel like I am welcomed home.
The plants, trees and flowers really do share their gifts and wisdom here, so it’s wonderful to be part of the Flower Essence Training courses that help people learn how to co-create essences and be here in the garden.
My favourite spot in the garden is in the Sanctuary and I love to spend a while here, just listening to the birdsong and breathing in the fragrance of the flowers. It’s a magical
place to be.

Love from the Garden
You might spot some colourful pebbles dotted around the flower beds. They have been painted with love by the children at St Benedicts school, as place markers for where beautiful dahlias have been planted ready to bloom over the summer. We love having their creativity in the garden that also helps our team when looking after the flower beds.

Love from the Waters
Chalice Well is England’s oldest holy well, a natural spring so rich in iron, it has an orangey-red colour. The waters come into contact with the light and air for the first time at the Lion’s Head fountain.
Wellesley Tudor Pole recommended adding just a few drops of well water to a glass of water, because the unique vibration of Chalice Well water imprints the water.
Wisdom & Inspiration
“Silence must surely first be attained within the mind through deliberate turning away from the world of noise by which we are surrounded on every side. It is within the stillness of this interior
Silence that we can become aware of that Reality which transcends both time and space.”
Wellesley Tudor Pole
“I am the Mother of Mystery That brings the Day to birth! I croon a song of Destiny In the heart of the dreaming Earth”
Alice Buckton
Alice Buckton was the owner guardian of Chalice Well from 1913 until 1944. She was a pioneer in education, women’s emancipation, a celebrated playwright and poet.
Wellesley Tudor Pole founded the Chalice Well Trust in 1959 . In addition to being a prolific writer, so much of which is relevant for our time now, he also initiated the Silent Minute, which we observe at the Well twice a day.
