Little St. Michaels Retreat House

For a longer stay, this can be booked by room or, for groups, as a whole, for Companions of the Well. Guests staying in the house have 24-hour access to the gardens; there is nothing else like the quiet of the gardens in the evening. 

Our beautiful Retreat House Little St. Michael’s is available for Companions. Open for individual and group bookings, it is an ideal setting for retreats, pilgrimages and sacred tours. We hold all of our spaces in a manner that preserves the peace and sanctity of this much loved sacred site, therefore all are free from mobile phone/laptop use and there is no smoking, meat or fish in the house. 

The Retreat House

Available for Companions of the Well to stay on retreat, Little St Michael’s Retreat House is a beautiful 17th Century Grade II listed house at Chalice Well. Available for individual and group bookings, it is an ideal setting for retreats, pilgrimages and sacred tours. There are 6 bedrooms with shared bathrooms, a historic sitting room with esoteric library. It is also possible to meditate in silence in the sacred Upper Room.

Staying in our Retreat House offers you relaxing and inspiring space in the incredibly special environment of the house, and also gives full access to the gardens 24 hours a day. Companions can enjoy the peace and recreation of Chalice Well, including 24-hour access to the garden, when booking self-catering accommodation in our Retreat House.

To respect other guests tranquility we have strict check in times between 2pm and 5pm.

Little St Michael’s Retreat House, is a place where many paths cross, many faiths converge; a place to share experience, beliefs and personal truth, or a place to simply stop, be still, turn inward into the peace to be found here. Constructed in circa 1600, Little St Michael’s is a beautiful Grade II listed house within the tranquil Chalice Well garden.  

Inside the house are simple, homely bedrooms, a quiet relaxing living room and an inspiring esoteric library, a well equipped kitchen and dining area. In the eaves lies the hallowed Upper Room, a holy space kept solely for prayer, reflection and meditation, observing the Silence of this sacred room, envisioned by Wellesley Tudor Pole. 

Become a Companion of Chalice Well, stay on retreat at Little St Michael’s, and the inspiring Garden is available to enjoy during opening times and after the public have left and at any hour you choose.
